The Chet Baker Trio

De Kroeg, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Jaco sits in with the Chet Baker Trio, featuring Philip Catherine on guitar, and Jean Louis Rassinfosse on upright bass.  The audience is very hostile towards Jaco.  Jereon De Valk, author of Chet Baker: His Life and Music, who was at the show wrote me the following; "Jaco arrived with Brian Melvin's band in The Netherlands, contracted by Wim Wigt who was also Chet's manager.  In the Bimhuis, Jaco sang, played the drums and got an enthusiast response from a young pop crowd.  Jaco roamed around in Amsterdam for a couple of days, sitting in sometimes, usually playing loud and chaotic. Chet called Wigt from the hotel they were both in, offering to help.  When he turned up at Chet's gig, the audience thought not again!  At the Kroeg concert I remember Satin Doll, a tune from which Jaco played the intro immediately after having plugged in, and Milestones, in which Jaco tried to play on Jean Louis' bass."  Jaco plays the upright on Miletones, electric bass on Killer Joe, and both bassists are on My Foolish Heart, Jaco on electric, and Jean Louis Rassinfosse on upright.
